Der Ort wurde im Jahr 1840 als Fischerdorf gegr\u00fcndet. Mit dem Anschluss an das Eisenbahnnetz im Jahr 1901 wuchs die Bedeutung des Ortes sehr schnell. Im Jahr 1923 fuhr von hier die erste F\u00e4hre zur Insel <strong>Skye<\/strong>. Heute sind von hier neben <strong>Skye<\/strong> die Inseln, <strong>Rum<\/strong>, <strong>Canna<\/strong>, <strong>Eigg<\/strong>, <strong>Muck<\/strong> und <strong>South Uist<\/strong> mit der F\u00e4hre zu erreichen.
