Die Burg wurde um 1230 erbaut. Im Jahr 1296 wurde sie von den Engl\u00e4ndern eingenommen und kam sp\u00e4ter durch Robert the Bruce (1274-1329) wieder in schottischen Besitz. Der m\u00e4chtige Bergfried wurde um 1623 ausgebaut. Die Burganlage geh\u00f6rt zu den gr\u00f6\u00dften ihrer Art in Schottland.\u00a0<!--more-->Im Jahr 1691 brannte die Burg nieder, und war seitdem dem Verfall preisgegeben. Heute geh\u00f6rt die Ruine\u00a0<strong>Historic Scotland<\/strong>, der schottischen Beh\u00f6rde f\u00fcr Denkmalpflege, die sich um den Erhalt der nationalen Baudenkm\u00e4ler k\u00fcmmert und diese f\u00fcr Besucher attraktiv h\u00e4lt.
