Der Ort wurde bereits im 5.\/6. Jahrhundundert zur Merowingerzeit gegr\u00fcndet. W\u00e4hrend des 30-j\u00e4hrigen Krieges fanden hier viele Glaubensfl\u00fcchtlinge aus der Schweiz ein neues Zuhause. Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde Rudelsheim h\u00e4ufig vom Hochwasser des Rheins heimgesucht. Nach mehreren verheerenden \u00dcberschwemmungen und einem Dammbruch entschied man sich umzusiedeln und im Jahr 1822 etwas weiter westlich den neuen Ort <strong>Ludwigsh\u00f6he<\/strong> zu gr\u00fcnden. Benannt wurde der Ort nach dem damaligen Landesherrn <strong>Gro\u00dfherzog Ludwig I. von Hessen-Darmstadt<\/strong>. Im Jahr 1830 hatten schlie\u00dflich die letzten Einwohner Rudelsheim verlassen. Die Geb\u00e4ude wurde daraufhin abgerissen, um neue landwirtschaftlich nutzbare Fl\u00e4chen zu erschlie\u00dfen. Erhalten geblieben ist nur noch das alte Friedhofskreuz.
