Aufgrund seines Standortes auf der\u00a0M\u00e4useturminsel im Rhein, hatte die unvermeidliche dort auftretende Feuchtigkeit der Bausubstanz ziemlich zugesetzt. In den Jahren 2013 bis 2015 wurde deshalb die von Wasser- und Schifffahrtsdirektion S\u00fcdwest in Auftrag gegebene\u00a0umfangreiche Sanierung an dem Baudenkmal durchgef\u00fchrt. Die neue Farbgebung irritierte zwar erst die \u00d6ffentlichkeit, aber das Landesamt f\u00fcr Denkmalschutz beruft sich bei dem hellen Anstrich auf historische Gem\u00e4lde aus der Zeit von 1827 bis 1905.
