Jahrhundert erbaut, und im 12. Jahrhundert durch die Vergr\u00f6\u00dferung des Ostchores erweitert wurde. Auch der quadratische Turm wurde im 12. Jahrhundert erg\u00e4nzt und 1570 zum Teil erneuert, wodurch er die gotischen Stilelemente erhielt. Erbaut wurde die Kirche auf Initiative von <strong>Lambert von L\u00fcttich<\/strong>, der in der Zeit danach auch Patron des Gotteshauses war. Aufgrund der f\u00fcr den Ort au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlichen Gr\u00f6\u00dfe\u00a0der Kirche wird vermutet, dass St. Lambert ein Wallfahrtsort auf dem Pilgerweg zwischen Worms und Bingen war.<\/p>\n<p>Nach\u00a0der Reformation wurde mit dem\u00a0gesamten Ort auch die Pfarrkirche evangelisch. Sp\u00e4ter, als wieder ein katholische Gemeinde in Bechtheim entstand, wurde das Gotteshaus als Simultankirche von beiden Konfessionen genutzt. Dieses Simultaneum bestand ca. von 1700 bis 1910. Danach bezog die evangelische Gemeinde ihre eigene neue Kirche im Ort. Die Basilika wurde in den 1970er Jahren aufw\u00e4ndig renoviert.
