Es befindet sich nur wenige Kilometer von zwei anderen bekannten und ehemals wichtigen kirchlichen Einrichtungen entfernt, n\u00e4mlich der\u00a0<a title=\"Melrose Abbey\" href=\"https:\/\/georg-dahlhoff.de\/wp\/?p=6439\">Melrose Abbey<\/a>\u00a0und der\u00a0<a title=\"Jedburgh Abbey\" href=\"http:\/\/georg-dahlhoff.eu\/monochrome\/?p=18769\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jedburgh Abbey.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chorherren aus\u00a0Alnwick Abbey\u00a0errichteten die\u00a0Abtei\u00a0auf dem Land, das\u00a0Hugh de Moreville\u00a0geh\u00f6rte, dem Vater eines der\u00a0M\u00f6rder\u00a0des heiligen\u00a0Thomas Becket.<\/p>\n<p>Im Jahre 1322 wurde sie von den Truppen\u00a0Eduards II.\u00a0von England w\u00e4hrend deren R\u00fcckzug aus Schottland niedergebrannt, danach aber von\u00a0Robert I., auch als\u00a0<i>\u201eRobert the Bruce\u201c<\/i>\u00a0bekannt, wieder aufgebaut und gef\u00f6rdert. 1385 wurde die Abtei erneut niedergebrannt, bl\u00fchte aber im 15. Jahrhundert noch einmal auf. Endg\u00fcltig zerst\u00f6rt wurde sie am 4.
